Sausage, Pepper and Onion Deep Dish Pizza Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons cornmeal
- 1 pound Italian pork or chicken sausage, removed from casings
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 red or green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 jar (24 oz.) Victoria® Low Sodium Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce
- 1 pound refrigerated pizza dough
- 1 package (8 oz.) shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425° F. Coat the bottom and sides of 12-inch cast iron skillet with olive oil and lightly dust with cornmeal.
- Cook sausage in large skillet until browned. Remove sausage, leaving drippings in skillet. Add onion and pepper and cook 6 minutes or until tender. Return sausage to skillet and add Victoria Low Sodium Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes.
- Roll pizza dough into a 14-inch circle. Place the dough in the prepared skillet, pressing the dough about 2 inches up the sides of the pan.
- Sprinkle dough with mozzarella. Add sausage mixture and sprinkle with Parmesan.
- Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until the crust and cheese are golden brown. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil.
