Sausage, Pepper and Onion Deep Dish Pizza Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 1 pound Italian pork or chicken sausage, removed from casings
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 red or green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 jar (24 oz.) Victoria® Low Sodium Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce
  • 1 pound refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 package (8 oz.) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425° F. Coat the bottom and sides of 12-inch cast iron skillet with olive oil and lightly dust with cornmeal.
  2. Cook sausage in large skillet until browned. Remove sausage, leaving drippings in skillet. Add onion and pepper and cook 6 minutes or until tender. Return sausage to skillet and add Victoria Low Sodium Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes.
  3. Roll pizza dough into a 14-inch circle. Place the dough in the prepared skillet, pressing the dough about 2 inches up the sides of the pan.
  4. Sprinkle dough with mozzarella. Add sausage mixture and sprinkle with Parmesan.
  5. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until the crust and cheese are golden brown. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil.
